Someone sees a cracked piece of trim, a stuck window or a long list of chores and picks up a phone or types a few words into Google. If your home services company is not on the first screen, it does not exist for that person. Search optimization for home services is a different job from SEO for a shop with one product. You sell dozens of small services, in many neighborhoods, to people in different moods. The work is organizing all of that so Google understands what you do and where, and so a worried homeowner understands it even faster.

Keep a note of every question callers ask. Those questions show what the pages should answer, and they often differ from what an owner expects.
Site structure
The classic mistake in home services is a single services page with a bulleted list of thirty tasks. Google cannot tell what you are good at, and a homeowner looking for deck board replacement scrolls past it. The opposite mistake is a separate thin page for every conceivable task, each with three sentences. Neither earns trust.
A workable structure sits in between. Group your work into the five to eight families that customers think in: interior repairs, doors and windows, decks and fences, plumbing-adjacent fixes you are licensed for, installation and assembly, exterior and seasonal upkeep, and planned or recurring work. Give each family a real page with plain descriptions, photographs of your own jobs, typical questions and what a visit involves. Then add separate pages for the individual tasks that bring the most calls or the best margin.
Add a page that explains how estimates and minimums work, because that is the first thing a careful homeowner wants to know and the thing most competitors hide. Add one for urgent work if you take it. Add a membership page if you run one. Link these to each other the way a sensible person would: from a fence repair page to the deck page, from interior repairs to the planned-work page.
Place pages
Many home services companies cover a loose radius, so owners ask how many location pages they need. The honest answer is as many as you can fill with real information, and no more.
Worth building
A page for a town where you have done work and plan to do more, with local street names you actually visit, photos from jobs there, a note on how long you usually take to arrive and questions homeowners in that town ask. This is useful to the reader and to search.
Avoid
Twenty pages where only the town name changes are doorway pages. Google has long treated them as low value, and homeowners see through them in seconds. Leave them off.

Pasting dozens of town names into the footer rarely helps and often looks like keyword stuffing. A short, honest list of the areas you serve is plenty.
Smart
People search by town and neighborhood. Plan the area around where your van can get in under half an hour and cluster jobs by route, instead of covering a whole county thinly.
On the page and under the hood
On each service page, the title and main heading should say what the job is and where you do it in ordinary words. The first paragraph should answer the question a nervous reader has: do you do this, how does it work, roughly what happens next. Photos need descriptive file names and short captions. Phone number, address or service area and hours should be consistent with your Google listing.
Behind the scenes, the basics matter more than tricks. Your site needs to load quickly on a phone, because most urgent searches happen on one. It should be secure, free of broken links and clear about which page is the main one for each service. Search Console should show no major errors. Schema markup for a local business, with your services and area, gives search engines a tidy summary. A sitemap helps them find new pages. None of this is glamorous, and all of it is the foundation under the pages that earn calls.
Photos of real work are the single best asset a home services company has. Before-and-after shots of a patched wall, a rehung door or a rebuilt gate show homeowners that you do what you say. They also give each page something no competitor can copy.

Setting expectations
Search optimization is not a switch. Early months are mostly cleanup and building: fixing titles, adding service pages, getting the listing complete and starting review requests. Movement usually shows first in the map results and in searches for your own company name, then in broader terms as pages mature and mentions accumulate. Competition, your area's size and how neglected the site was all change the pace, and we do not promise rankings, call volumes or dates.

When something is not working, we will say so and change it. Home services work is also seasonal, so a quiet month for exterior work may be an ordinary one.
